  • Before Reading - There are four lessons outlined in this section. They look at removing the stigma surrounding homelessness by investigating images and infographics.
  • During Reading – These activities involve investigating analogies, examining friendships, learning about foster homes and how they are portrayed in the media, analyzing articles about the issues of "aging out," persuasive writing, and letter writing.
  • After Reading – Students use their knowledge of characters to find appropriate real-world versions of them and justify their choices using evidence from the text.
  • Culminating Activity- Students sum up what they have learned by creating a movie poster surrounding the theme and main ideas of the novel.
